“Smart Games” have arrived in The Learning Lab, both online and in our stores in Mullingar and Celbridge.
These are multi-level logic games, with lots of different challenges from ‘starter’ to ‘expert’. Each game has a unique and innovative game mechanic with themes that appeal to both boys and girls. The games are designed with the belief that ‘Learning through Play’ is one of the most important concepts in childhood development and we couldn’t agree more!
Getting started with a smart game is as easy as 1-2-3. The “how to play” notes are presented in 3 simple steps for each game meaning you can jump straight in and start playing without having to read a manual full of instructions.
Players of Smart Games use and develop their various cognitive skills to solve the challenges. The key skills that are being engaged in each game are actually listed on the box so you can really see what you’re stimulating! Players learn that through practice and concentration they can develop the skills needed to solve complex problems…a lesson that will stand to them throughout life.
So far one of our resident toy testers (age 5) has tried ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’ a magnetic puzzle game you can find here and she is really enjoying working her way through the challenges, making sure the animals all have their own burrows on the game board.
I have had a test run of the ‘Puzzler Cube Go’ which is here. At first glance it looks kind of like a rubik’s cube, but it’s more like 3D tetris in my opinion. You have to build the cube in a certain way so that the front and back faces match the pictures in the booklet, easy enough until I moved up a level and didn’t have the full picture anymore, but it’s so satisfying to complete it so I’ll keep working on it! There’s also ‘Smartcar 5×5‘ and ‘Smartcar Mini‘ which work on the same kind of principle as the Puzzler Cube.
These games will really get your cognitive cogs turning! Check them out here or pop in and visit us in one of our stores and get a hands on look!
